"Halloween" analysis

Point of view camera shot throughout most of the opening sequence. This makes the experience more real-life and makes you feel like you are in the film.

Looks as if has all been shot through handheld camera, not like typical high-budget movie. Shows that a scary atmosphere can be created without mass expenditures.

Blur when hand reaches for knife and girl is being stabbed - To hide the fact we know at this point the killer is a child. This leaves more to your imagination, rather than seeing something and being disappointed.

Puts mask on and distorts view from the camera, makes it look as if we are looking through the mask.

Synthesizer sounds to create eerie atmosphere and build up tension. because there is a lone instrument, it creates character and a sense of unease.

Final shot is a zoom-out, which sets the scene. Before this shot the scene hasn't really been established, so it gives us a wider picture of where the murder has taken place.
